Harm reduction saves lives. The Ontario government's decision to cut all public funding for supervised consumption sites in the province is a deadly policy decision that will result in more deaths from overdoses. Supervised consumption sites are a healthcare service for people who use drugs.

As a (former) labour rep, I've been saying this for years. Profit is secondary to control and power. Capitalists don't hate unions for hurting profit; they hate unions for taking control from them and putting it in the hands of workers. Accept this and a lot more about our world makes sense.

It serves a political purpose to create the problem of open air drug use across Ontario, especially in an urban centre like Toronto. Conservatives can claim that "crime is everywhere!" and weaponize the public's fear — no matter that they created the problem. No matter that thousands will die.
