Hospitals are not targets. Stop letting Israel bomb hospitals and attack healthcare workers in hospitals!!! What kind of sick world are we living in to allow this to continue happening.

People often ask me, how do you keep going? We must keep going. When we are not the ones living with bombs falling from the sky, when we have food on our tables, and clean water to drink, and money to spend. We have to put our feelings aside for a moment. We have work to do.

I woke up this morning to see a video of a healthcare worker colleague in Gaza be shot in the head while working in the hospital. Shot in the head by the Israeli military. While working in the hospital. Israel continues to target healthcare workers with impunity. Fuck this world.

My brother Dr. Tarek Loubani is back in Canada. He was working as an emergency doctor at Nasser medical complex in Gaza for the past three months. I learn more from him every time I see him. And yes, that is fresh Palestinian za’atar from a dear friend. Free Palestine.

To bear witness to injustice comes with responsibility. The responsibility to act, to take meaningful action. To help change the political and structural conditions that allowed for injustice to occur in the first place.

One week ago, the village chose to stand in solidarity with Palestine for the annual Pride parade. Because the village knows that Pride was and always will be a protest. That from Stonewall to Palestine, resistance is not a crime.

These words were shared today at a vigil for the toxic drug crisis in our city today. I keep thinking about it. Hope is this gritty fighting spirit - a steadfastness.

On this day, 54 years ago, on August 28, 1971, a group of activists protested on Parliament Hill in the first large scale gay rights protest held in Canada. This is why the annual Pride parade happens in August in Ottawa, to honour this tradition of protesting and demanding for equal human rights.

Trans rights are human rights. I have the privilege of taking care of patients who are trans. Protect trans people. Trans people exist, and they always have and always will. They deserve access to safe and quality healthcare, including gender affirming healthcare.

Trans rights are human rights.

Every preventable death is a consequence of bad policy. Systemic policy failures that succeed in putting political interests above peoples’ inherent right to life, dignity, and self-determination. When we see this in healthcare or public health, we must name it and address it.
