Holy Trinity, Micklegate, York — called one of the five great northern churches. Today it leans humbly into the street, a crooked yet remarkable survival that briefly shone as a centre of European enlightenment, producing illuminated manuscripts.

For a bit more detail: the mosaic depicts the local legend of a dragon slain by Bishop Jocelin. A 🔥curse🔥 states that the slaying has to be commemorated every 50 years otherwise the dragon will return. We're safe for another 26 years...

my mom started volunteering to help restore an old overgrown cemetery and today they’re picking wild grapes. one of the other volunteers makes them into jam and sells it to raise funds for the project. it won a blue ribbon at the state fair. i MUST try these graveyard grapes

Really pleased to see that Sneinton Hermitage has been cleared of foliage and we can see it again. This section of caves was once part of a 300m long run of houses dug into the cliff. Its now the only surviving element of dwellings dated to at least the mid-16th century.
