It's rare to spot glass gravestones in a cemetery, but it seems fitting in a place like Venice. This one is gorgeous - it looks like a window! If you look closely, you can see an etching of a man in the glass. /8

The re-use of building stones was not uncommon and is an early example of re-cycling🤣. Here are some examples from the C7th crypt at Hexham Abbey, which were - er - borrowed from Roman buildings along Hadrian’s Wall.

One of the most beautifully carved monuments in Toowong Cemetery is that of Frederick Ness, carved by his brother-in-law, Frank Martin Downes. Frank was injured when a crane jib broke and struck him at his monumental works. He died that night on 26 August 1918, Learn more: buff.ly/z5CeXzJ
