He’s right, but the reason is Americans (who are paying any attention) are so used to it, and to there never being an obvious beginning or apparent conclusion to Yemen ops. Between the Houthis and al-Qaida, the US has struck targets in Yemen every year since 2009 except for 2022 (and maybe 2021).

Not only do NIH folks have PhDs and commitment to the work, but they all have specialized expertise within a certain domain. Program staff really know who's doing what in their fields. When you lose them you're losing a ton of knowledge about how to move the science forward that can't be replaced.
