Recently I learned that civil servants have the First Amendment-protected right to speak out on matters of public concern. Thurgood Marshall, in an 8-1 SCOTUS decision, noted that government employees know how the gov’t works, and the public has a special interest in hearing from them.

DHS is proposing a rule that would end "duration of status" for J, F and other visa holders. This would decimate the international graduate student and postdoc population, which are a crucial part of the United States biomedical workforce. There's still time for you to comment on the proposed rule.

Update 2: Calling your reps matters. CVS has now changed their website to only ask if you are eligible, which in MD you are if you are over 3 years old. You no longer have to attest to having an underlying medical condition. It's not perfect, but it's a huge improvement.

Acetaminophen remains a safe pain relief option during pregnancy. Despite recent unfounded claims, there’s no clear evidence linking prudent use to fetal development issues. ACOG's guidance remains. When needed in pregnancy, acetaminophen should be used in moderation, after consulting a doctor.

Update: The MD Governors office and CVS national are now working on getting updated guidance out. In MD, as in many states, the law states that pharmacists can give anyone 3 years and older can get a COVID vaccine without a prescription and most insurance should cover it.

Under Secretary Kennedy, there has been an exodus of patients from the NIH Clinical Center. Without enough patients, it could lose its accreditation. Americans from across the country would lose access to new treatments for cancer, autoimmune diseases, rare diseases, and many others. RFK must go.

As RFK Jr shuts down access to current vaccines through the FDA and CDC, he has also been shutting down vaccine development here at the NIH. This is happening across HHS. That's just one reason why more than 1000 HHS workers called for him to be removed.
