In a country where the race, gender, ethnicity, and SES of individuals dramatically shape their lived experience and health outcomes, claiming that medicine is blind to these factors is malpractice! Even if it’s complicated, it’s still important to think about diversity, equity, and inclusion!

My patient recently lost his Medicaid insurance and couldn’t afford his meds. Just calculated the cost of his 13 💊 which would be $2300/month. That’s around $27,500/year. The FPL for a family of 4 is ~$32,000. This is not sustainable for the health and lives of our patients! #Pharmacoequity

Medicare will start requiring prior approval for certain procedures — and will hire private AI companies to determine if patients are covered. The AI companies would have financial incentives to deny claims, because Medicare plans to pay them some of the savings from rejections.
