One of the questions my Medicaid team and I ask is, how will they decide who to cull from social welfare programs? At least one approach appears to be “add more administrative burdens,” affecting everyone, but those with the least power will feel these cuts most profoundly.

New analysis shows that states without #Medicaid expansion will be hit hardest if ACA tax credits expire. Unless Congress extends the enhanced premium tax credits, 4 million more Americans will become uninsured, and many will likely experience difficulties accessing affordable #healthcare.

The impact of the cuts to #Medicaid Congress & the White House are entertaining will send shock waves through our health care system. We or our children will all eventually feel it on some level.

An aside: Labeling behavior at the state level according to Democratic or Republican “affiliation” ignores significant heterogeneity within states. And it feeds the political polarization narrative even further.

How to get 146% return on investment? The NIH. That's just the economic benefit. Biomedical research promotes human health.

When communicating about the function of the NIH/NSF using $s is not a great strategy. Nor is using the word “indirect costs.” Success stories are a good start, & people need to see the broad ripple effects of these institutions.
