Itβs not really surprising that people are becoming more distrustful and cynical about tech (and everything else) when thereβs a constant drumbeat of stories, like this, about a seemingly innocuous game/tool/website harvesting data that is then used for murderous purposes:

After reading the article (I confess I didnβt do so before posting) I see the real reason has to do with a fat felon supporter getting their panties in a twist over the loss of revenue the Geordie Howe bridge will cause. So the fat fuck is appeasing a cultist & knows nothing of the reality.

I really think that it is worse to be surveilled by a for-profit company than it is to be surveilled by the government. A lot of objections to regulating tech amounts to ideas that it's a guise for government surveillance. But what's already true is that big tech surveils us, for profit.

Landmark German ruling declares Google's AI Overviews are Google's own words and makes it liable for false answers
A German regional court has ruled that Google is directly liable for the content of its AI search overviews. According to the court, previous limited liability protections for search engine operators don't apply to AI overviews. In this case, Google's AI had falsely linked two publishers to fraud and made claims that didn't appear in any of the linked sources. The ruling could set a precedent for AI-generated content liability worldwide.
