7 years sober from alcohol today! I've been struggling lately, tho thankfully recovery and sobriety are solid. It's nice to take a step back and recognize that the big things are going well. I took the day off work. Psych, brunch, bookstore, nap, movies with friends. That's a solid day right there.

Sled Saturday was epic! The afternoon was strong. Heavy, hard, fast. Chinese Medicine stands out, Grimelda ripped. Evening sets from Otoboke Beaver, Bb Bomb, and Brain Bent were amazing at the palace. Brain Bent deserves to be playing venues this large, holy shit, I screamed myself raw

Friday afternoon sets at palomino ruled. Everything You Ever Loved, Yarbo, Natlak, and Abrupt Decay all killed. A hard fun lineup. Natlak were new favourites last year, they still are. Yarbo is really good, super fun, punk. Abrupt Decay is local grindcore I'd never seen and they hit like hammers.

I don't usually go in for music festivals. I don't like to be cloistered in a fucking gated field.

Tropical Fuck Storm was so good, grimy arty noisy fucking rock. They fuck. Montreal (post) punk hit the hardest for day 2. Family Man was relentless, just driving frenzy, a new favourite. Last Waltzon was at least as good as last year, fun and fast and cool as hell. Sled Island day 2 ruled!

Sled Island day 1 ruled. Diamonds Days and Non Ultras were great. Stucco should have been one of my favourite local bands forever ago, situation rectified. Computer was fucking rad, better than lastnight. Liiek ended the night with beautiful German post-punk.

I managed to track down Lilies. A beautiful Quebecoise film where a 1910s love story is acted out by prisoners in 1950 for a bishop. It is hot, and heartbreaking. When I watch it I am 19 in a science theatre with the university queer group. Giddy as hell and insecure and new and hopeful.
