I think KDE is one of the most complete and well-made desktop environments on Linux out there right now for how most people use a computer. Using v6.7 for a bit, it feels very complete in a way that is surprisingly satisfying to me despite my own personal preference for the GTK-based Xfce and GNOME.

One of my favorite computer fun facts is that “byte = 8 bits” was only established as a documented norm in 1993 (4b and 6b were also used to save space) + is not always actually true because C (which is the basis of basically all well-established operating systems) doesn’t define the size of a byte.

Man. We used to have to learn how to use the computer and type well in a class we had to take in middle school. I used to think that that wasn’t needed because of the kids younger than me growing up with tech but I have realized that I was unfortunately wrong and it has never been more needed lmao.

Kids/adolescents will 100% find a way, they’re very clever and resourceful. Banning tech just turns it into a fight, most adults aren’t actually tech-literate to enforce this stuff effectively. Always best to have a trusting/honest relationship and have a dialogue about “why” like they’re a human.

It’s interesting seeing things like The Mother of All Demos and similar academic or research stuff from back then because it shows that very little has actually changed since the 60s/70s, and basically nothing has changed since the 00s/10s minus the average consumer’s perception of technology.
