Hitting the road for Christmas, first time in my 46 years I won’t be in Dublin!

An hour before guests arrive. Fridge stocked, 10 crates of beer outside cooling, Perry and cider flowing. Food all prepared just needs to be set out a little later. Need a shower and a beer.

The Irish health system has its flaws, but as someone who just spent 4 days in the Mater, have to say my treatment was exceptional, the people working there are brilliant, kind and professional. Can’t thank them enough. (Don’t ask, I’m all good) Just wanted to publicly acknowledge the amazing work.

I’ve been doing this 15+ years, and have been in easily over a hundred breweries. This is one of the nicest experiences I’ve had. Beers are phenomenal, brewery is very impressive and the owner is super sound. Lost and Grounded, Bristol.

Looking forward to this tomorrow, hoping to see plenty of familiar faces. Irish beer is in a weird place with so few events these days, Underdog closing and there only being about two pubs in the country that don’t pour the stout.

December is the month in beer sales when you either get rewarded for all the work you did during the year or becomes fairly obvious you’ve been at nothing!

As an employer I’m into this auto enrolment. Would be nice if I could sign up. Can also see how the new costs could send big companies on tight margins over the edge.

Dave does a great job distilling and synthesizing the rise and fall of Rogue, and reading it makes me realize how out-of-step brands founded on toxic masculinity (to use a shorthand) have fared. The country is steeped in TM now, and it’s just not into beer brands offering more of the same.

So cool to see the rapid growth in renewable energy over the last year or two. In spite of some people’s best efforts, and years later than maybe it should have happened. But still it’s really cool, feels like there’s serious moment now too.

Just seen an Re-turn advert saying putting your bottles and cans in your recycling bin isn’t as good as returning them to machines. Why? Isn’t as good for who?

After a couple of years of mostly just brewing core beers, and paying down covid debts. We’ve been super busy doing things over the last month.

All that really matters at this stage.

Taking myself out for a haircut and a couple of afternoon pints. Looking forward to finding a nice corner to read this in.

Pure greed, built a great business, but it was never enough, grow, grow, grow… Exploited the goodwill of so many staff, customers and industry pros.

Sunflower in Belfast, great little corner pub with 1 handpump serving local Boundary Pale Ale on our afternoon visit. Yard outside with pizza van. Came back in the evening for the Manouche gypsy swing band followed by folk club upstairs.

I long for a time when very obviously being completely full of shit was enough on its own to mean you weren’t taken seriously. Now it seems to be a big selling point. More shit equals more clicks. All of a sudden the idiot is in charge.

Interviewing people this week, as exciting as bringing someone new in is, I don’t love the process. Thankfully we’ve got some strong candidates to choose between, even if that makes things harder.

Everyone in Cabra seems to be firing into the solar too. Walking around there seems to be four or five different companies doing installs at the moment.
