Interesting study from the Netherlands showing a preference for transport policies when presented as the existing norm rather than an alternative to it. Argues decision makers should anticipate a bias towards the status quo (ie opposition to change) & support for policies to grow after adoption.

Four questions for people who say their driving is essential: 1. why is it essential to drive THAT car? 2. do you drive it as little as possible? 3. why is it essential to drive it that fast? 4. why do you need priority over people who aren't driving?

17-year-long Scottish study of 82,000+ adults finds commuting by bike reduces your risk of: • early death • hospitalisation for any reason • cardiovascular disease • cancer mortality • treatment for mental health problems. Yeah, but those LTNs and bike lanes are *really* annoying.

It is a shame that wider pavements, more public benches, better lighting, ramps for wheelchair users and buggies are seen as “woke”. Making cities more accessible benefits everyone.

That happened to us, moved to London 5 years ago and couldn't be more satisfied with our decision!

One of the main benefits nobody understood for building #HS2 in full was moving road freight to rail. Moving fast intercity passenger services to dedicated tracks means more scheduling room for freight on the existing slower tracks. This would reduce carbon emissions and make our roads safer.

Academia runs on contacting other academics out of the blue and saying HEY do you wanna do this COOL THING for essentially NO REWARD and equally certainly NO RECOGNITION from your employer and those people going OH MAN that sounds AWESOME sign me up for the COOL NO REWARD NO RECOGNITION EXPERIENCE.
