The Peter Mandelson scandal is not really about the process. There was no "correct and proper" way to appoint Epstein's friend as US ambassador. However many boxes they ticked, it was always going to be a scandal.

Remember the big picture of the Mandelson scandal. Starmer appointed a known close associate of Epstein to be US ambassador. Starmer KNEW, as he has admitted, about Mandelson and Epstein. And this wasn't an accident. It was because they wanted to cosy up to Trump.
