It's also not as simple as "CPTSD is trauma that started or happened in childhood." Adults are absolutely vulnerable to CPTSD-- and adults are no more to blame for their CPTSD than children are.

No doubt: it can be hard to be patient w/ ourselves when we've gotten our ass kicked by trauma responses over & over again. It's not easy or intuitive. Breathing in to our pain & frustration w/ compassion is one of the hardest things recovery asks us to do. And: we can do it.

Punishing ourselves doesn't teach us anything new or motivate us to learn anything new. If we're struggling w/ trauma responses, it's not a lack of "willpower" or a "choice." Shame & self-punishment only make us more vulnerable to trauma responses-- & less open to skillbuilding.
