Took my kid to the new Oakridge this morning because there was a deal on a bike helmet at the sports store and wow is it ever tacky. Lots of gold and marble and blonde wood finishes. Minimalist but still tacky. It’s a style that I’m dubbing “Trump Moderne.”

I wasn’t able to take an official leave when our kids were born (55% salary in Vancouver is a non-starter) but luckily I had enough vacation and banked overtime to take a couple of months each time. It was great.

My husband took 2 months of paid family leave after our baby was born and it was absolutely instrumental for my physical and mental health after birth. I don't have data on it but I'm convinced that fathers taking more parental leave would lower the rate of postpartum depression significantly.
