The Trump administration is no longer keeping its promises hour to hour, much less a month later. I hope that every Dem senator who votes to end the shutdown with nothing more than a wink and a promise realizes they are serving their last term.

Shutting down the government is a big deal. People have been hurt in big ways as a result of the decision. To have that suffering be for nothing—to re-open the government without actually having protected people’s health insurance and economic well-being—is unconscionable.

It bears repeating every day right now: If Trump manages to get the ACA rescinded, it means that insurance companies can immediately deny coverage or greatly increase the cost for preexisting conditions - which in the past included just being a woman. Direct payments make things worse, not better.

So the oldest person ever to become president keeps falling asleep in his office during public events and there’s no big public discussion on how this is a coverup or how republicans are lying to us about how this government is running?

When they put "Voter ID" in, it isn't the same thing we used to understand. "Voter ID" in the next election could mean polling places with armed military as "escorts" or "guards" that are there watching as you show your ID. We win by giving them our collective middle finger and showing up anyway.

In a way, I find the authoritarian takeover of our media system even more disturbing than the authoritarian takeover of our political system. Our political system has been failing basically my entire adult life. But, the media system provided accountability and sort of worked. Now it’s collapsing.
