one of the many important things I learned from Sylvia Wynter is that capitalism (specifically dispossession by accumulation) is a belief system (not just, say, a social-economic system). it is deified and worshipped. dig this: it’s a religion, faith, theology. we follow it.

The problem with the so-called "nonviolence" of the Civil Rights Era is that it is misnarrated. The retelling in the "American myth of progress" version of the Civil Rights movement was that it was completely nonviolent. That is not true. Plus let's call it its full name "nonviolent direct action"

Miller wanted violence and resistance in Los Angeles, but he didn’t get violence. So ICE provided it, which means what happens is on them and him. This is why elected Dems urging protesters to stay peaceful is counterproductive; they should, yes, but the message you want to send is ICE started this.

In the last 20 or so minutes I’ve seen LAPD officers shove women to the ground without provocation, rip a sign out of a man’s hand and then swing a baton into his leg and raise a less-lethal launcher to aim directly at a protester (which I’m 99% is a major policy violation.)

Just a reminder that U.S. military personnel, whether in the National Guards or the Marines, are not trained for law enforcement. They are trained to kill, they are remarkably effective at it, and that is why there are such strict legal prohibitions on deploying military inside the United States.
