JJ Redick said Marcus Smart was able to participate in practice today. Austin Reaves said Smart defended him a couple of times and played at his typical defensive level.

Can we not overreact to a Lakers preseason loss especially when LeBron and Luka didn't play? The most important thing is that Austin Reaves looked great, no more injuries happened and Vando has some nice defensive shifts.

The Lakers trail the Suns 57-44 at the half. Austin Reaves has been superb. He has 18 points. Vanderbilt has also stood out defensively, and Rui Hachimura is having a good game on both sides of the ball. Jaxson Hayes has the highlight of the game so far, posterizing Booker.

Austin Reaves is doing precisely what you want your third guy to do when your top two are out. He is imposing his will and leading the team. Reaves has a game-high 16 points on 5-7 shooting with a little under seven minutes left in the first half.

The Suns lead the Lakers 31-16 at the end of the opening period. Los Angeles is shooting 31% from the field. It's hard to do much positive when a team is converting at that clip.

15-9 Suns ahead of the Lakers with 6:31 left in the opening quarter. It's early and things look a bit sloppy as L.A. struggles to get quality looks at the basket. That's not much of a shocker considering it's the first preseason game and so many guys are out.
