These galls on some local Sweet Chestnut had me confused as they were not in my big gall book. A bit of googling however led me to the Oriental Chestnut Gall Wasp. An excellent day out with the Burton Fellwalkers yesterday. Took the Ullswater steamer from Glenridding to Howtown, then walked into Boredale to climb Place Fell. Returned via Patterdale. 1st #Wainwright of 2025 for me.

A Gold-fringed Mason Bee (Osmia aurulenta) from Cumbria earlier this week. This species nests in empty snail shells, disguising the shell slightly with chewed up leaves.
