They are literally firing all the judges they think might grant relief. They just fired a friend of mine a couple hours ago. They have no shame. The bastards want an assembly line for deportations and nothing more; rubber-stamping bootlickers who’ll yes’sir at every new diktat to deny.

A man died today at the Rikers Island jail complex. He was just hours away from an expected release. This year, 13 people have now died in the NYC jails. That is *nearly triple* the number of people who died in the NYC jails in all of 2024.

I’m a week past getting my gallbladder removed and I haven’t had to cook myself a meal this whole time. My community is feeding me, and they’re feeding me well - generous portions of delicious homemade food that fits my temporary dietary needs. It’s genuinely an incredible thing to receive.

Mo'ne Davis spent years telling people that she was done playing baseball. She did not want to be forever defined by what she did as a 13-year-old in Little League, a decade ago, and she did not feel like there was space for her to do much else. And then she felt differently. On Davis and the WPBL:

It’s intermission at And Then We Were No More at

Today I got to see my grandma for the first time since she had a stroke six weeks ago. She’s 90, close to 91. She’s doing better than you can possibly imagine for a 90 year old woman who had a stroke! And yet: visiting her just made me so sad, because she’s so bought in to American individualism.

Some people cut back on caffeine in the week leading up to Yom Kippur. I drink an extra cup of coffee about four hours before Kol Nidre so that the caffeine withdrawal headache hits at the same time as the dehydration headache, during Neilah.

This was a fascinating read. I think Ezra Klein has a hard time recognizing the difference between a pundit and an organizer. Klein thinks Charlie Kirk was a pundit and therefore should be treated like he would want to be treated. Coates sees that Kirk was an organizer - and knows he isn’t.

It's not just an acknowledgement but a legitimation of a (the?) core asymmetry of US politics: Democratic voters hate Republican politicians, but Republican voters hate Democratic *voters*. So Klein's "solution" is that all Dem voters must act like politicians.

This whole thread makes me want to watch the doc but also tell my Eminem story. When I was 9 years old, my dad took me with him on a business trip to Detroit. This was the last season at Tiger Stadium - 1999, and he was taking me to a game. It was also just a couple months after Slim Shady came out.

I haven’t been able to stop thinking about this story and the abuses of wealth and power involved all day. I don’t know if there’s any set of regulations in existence that would protect a surrogate from this particular intended parent’s behavior but there has to be something better than this.

Went to Yankee stadium for the first time tonight. Spotted maybe six other people in Nats gear the whole time. Had the whole section turn to look at me when I reacted to CJ Abrams’s RBI single in the top of the third. An experience, I guess? It’s a perfectly fine ballpark.

Last and only solo night of vacation. Seattle. Went to a wine bar and hung out with the owner because I was the only customer on a Tuesday night. Headed back to the hotel where I’m contemplating room service dessert and preparing the in-room jacuzzi. I love a really bougie vacation night.

I took myself to see a show tonight and it sounded like it would be really stupid. And it was. And I loved it. GINGER TWINSIES is deeply referential in the best way, gives Meredith Blake an “am I really the villain” monologue, and was the best kind of stupid theater for a random Wednesday night.
