Looks like the current storm may be coming to a close

1 - "disabled" is not a slur or a bad word. It's just what we are. We don't need other words to replace it. If it makes you uncomfortable ask yourself why. 2 - Having a disabled child doesn't make YOU disabled and listening to disabled folks AND YOUR CHILD will help you better support them.

I am endlessly talking about this. Parents of disabled kids don't get to decide what's best for disabled people. It's important to advocate for your kids, especially when those kids are not capable of advocating for themselves. But talking over actually disabled people? No, you don't get a say.

Well, it’s been a good run. We’ve had some great, compassionate care. But I guess day 5 is the day that we find a nurse that doesn’t think we deserve care or compassion.

For posterity: some of children’s artwork that Cllr Montague found “intimidating” and ordered removed at today’s Council presentation on his amendment to re-introduce gas to future construction. Imagine how intimidated those lil kids felt coming to City Hall to present about their climate future.

Beyond parody: while debating the motion to re-instate natural gas heating in new buildings, Mayor Sim and Cllr. Brian Montague described the colourful artwork created by children & displayed by Cllrs Fry & Carr "intimidating" to those who express pro-gas opinions. Demand the signs be taken down.

All these people whose kids are now going to get cavities requiring expensive treatment, and complications of those cavities, including serious, sometimes life-threatening infections. Plus a lifetime of problems with teeth that were not protected in childhood.

And honestly this is why disability justice needs to be LED 👏🏻 BY 👏🏻 DISABLED 👏🏻 PEOPLE 👏🏻 which is the responsibility of ABLED PEOPLE to *drumroll* enable. Also critical to have disabled people from diverse backgrounds in leadership but are you all ready for that conversation?

We should collect all of these into a book for kids trying to pick a career path.
