As we landed at LGA tonight, a Black woman bodily denied me access to a hand dryer in a public bathroom (because it was “too close” to her vicinity). As I tried to tell her I had the right to use it, she got in my face and said “I can’t wait for your deportation.” 💔

This is a national disgrace. A violation of human rights. Total disregard for the Constitution and the rule of law. The indiscriminate use of force by the state is anathema to a healthy democracy.

I miss the old Appellate Twitter community. A lot.

Today’s subtweet in exile is that I’m glad I never had to hike at 15,000 feet to fit in at work. Hiking is nice, but I noticed the altitude when hiking in New Mexico at 10,000 feet… Can’t imagine.

Last night, a federal judge in El Paso became the first to review ICE’s claim that someone was an “alien enemy.” It went SO BAD for ICE that not only did the judge order release for the people suing, without prompting he restricted the use of the Alien Enemies Act in west Texas.

I have only one quibble with this framing. Deportation is often arbitrary, unfair, and terrible. But there are things that have to happen before someone is removed from the country through deportation. This is not that. It is worse. And we shouldn’t call it that. It’s a disappearance machine.
