It has been a huge team effort over many years, but the Australian War Memorial's new Anzac Hall is open. This includes "Kandahar Workhorse". It was a great privilege to meet many Chinook veterans & family members, & share their untold stories of bravery & loss, professionalism & humour.

A reminder, before a certain movie probably makes a big thing of it again: A young Irish couple did not provide the critical data that made Stagg tell Ike to delay D-Day. The most critical data came from HMS Hoste, alone out in the Atlantic. The Blacksod story is nice. But it's not true. /1

The armored cruiser San Giorgio served in the great war and all along the 20s and 30s. In 1940 she was placed in Tobruk harbor to act as a floating AA and coastal battery. Here's the story:

The US Army Air Corp also tested the Highball (renamed Speedee bombs) but abandoned the project when one of the bombs bounced back off the water and sheared the rear fuselage off an A-26 Invader.
