After many days of travel: inc four flights, 8 hours of 4x4 off roading, and a half day (and into the night) on horseback, weâve reached the Dukha reindeer camp on the east taiga of Mongolia, just 10 miles from the Russian border. And they have starlink! đ

Excited to be visiting a new (to me) part of the permafrost region this month, with friend/colleague Marina Tonkopeeva of the International Centre for Reindeer husbandry, new collaborators from the Dukha indigenous community, and local science experts. I wonder what maps will come of this trip?!

Proposed NOAA budget zeros out ALL climate laboratories and cooperative institutions. GFDL, NSSL, GML, etc. This appears to also end the US greenhouse gas sampling network, including at Mauna Loa, the oldest continuous carbon dioxide monitoring site on Earth.

I love seeing adaptation and resilience action like this in other municipalities! The more local action we see, the better we will all be prepared. More than half of the world's population already lives in urban centres, and we also serve as emergency response hubs for rural climate disasters.

Wildland fire in the Arctic is changing rapidly. With half the state of Alaska lacking snow cover and experiencing deep drying, fuels are prepped, if the early spring produces some lightning, for fire. We could be off to the races to add another red stripe, maybe a much longer one than we've seen.
