I wish more people grasped that the reason why everyone of a certain age knows the Konami code/Sonic’s level select, etc is because ~everyone used them all the time~. Older games that take their time or otherwise are not streamlined have not ‘aged poorly’. You are simply over-conditioned by an era of popular design conventions. One where an increasingly dwindling attention span is gamed out to the point that actively engaging with an experience feels like work.

I've finished Kingdom Hearts Re: Chain of Memories now. First time actually seeing through the whole of Chain of Memories itself, used to just skip it and watch the cutscenes before. Blog post coming in a little over 2 weeks' time.

I've made the decision that in 2027 I'm going to be putting up much more blog posts about Final Fantasy again. It's a big year for FF, there are some games I've yet to cover, and a handful I'd like to have another go at.

I realise there are a bunch of major Final Fantasy anniversaries within the near future. I should get something together for those.

Probably should clarify something about not covering the mobile games. So far what I've been writing is about the act of playing the games, I can't do that with the mobile games, and I'm not interested in writing an article about watching some YouTube recaps.

Suppose the fact that I did a Kingdom Hearts blog post earlier in the year, and now that I'm working on one about Chain of Memories, you could say that's the start of a "Kingdom Hearts project" to run through the series. No, it will not include the inactive mobile games.

If you can, talk to people about what you're writing. I find it a good way to put thoughts together, and sometimes I might be asked questions where thinking about the answers helps me put things in perspective.
