Saturday was just a really great Portland day. My 5 year old and I took trimet to (her first!) Thorns game and then decided to pop into the Burnside Bridge party on the way home. Got to walk all the way across the bridge. Then got pizza and took trimet home.

St. Johns & Linnton will have a Fire Engine next year! Kanal 2 moves $2.5m of one-time funding from a new Business License Tax Stabilization Reserve (that went from $0 to $8.7m in the Mayor's Proposed) to Fire & Rescue to restore Engine 22. It passes, 7-5 (thank you, @councilorsmith.bsky.social)!

My amendment to save St. Johns’ Fire Engine 22 passes 7-4. North Portlanders deserve the same investment and access to critical emergency infrastructure that other parts of the city receive. I’ll always fight against cuts that disproportionately target St. Johns & other District 2 communities.

Just submitted written testimony supporting this. Fire Station 22 is my local station and they helped us out during a very scary incident a few years ago. Losing this station would be a huge loss to my neighborhood and to the city at large because of their role in an emergency at the CEI hub.

In addition to being horrendous, this is also just stupid. The only reason we have our gender listed on our licenses is to give the person looking at it an additional clue as to whether we are who we say we are. They are creating confusion for law enforcement and others simply to be cruel.

In January I got the flu really bad and ended up being hospitalized because I needed supplemental oxygen for a couple of days. I've been grappling with a lot of internalized ableism around that. Like not just that it sucked to be hospitalized, but that it wasn't fair for ME to be hospitalized (1/?)
