Man, I see a lot of folks from outside OR baffled by the spectacular failure of 120. It was a shit measure intended to fail! Its own sponsors wanted nothing to do with it. And reading the full measure every sentence was worse than the last.

Our govt dept went through recent staff reductions, and 80% of the layoffs were women and POC solely because of union rules and seniority. Our agency had done remarkable work to diversify since COVID, but folks with seniority were older, whiter, etc, so job cuts reversed those hard-won gains.

No bigger disparity between the book people I know and the general public than Master & Margarita. 'Best book ever' for the former (agreed), 'never heard of her' from the latter. Just a fascinating case.

Man, even with union protection, I'd be fired soooo fast for proselytizing at my local government workplace.

The PNW absolutely must build more housing. Do whatever needs to be done, declare an emergency, fast track review & permitting, to welcome folks fleeing red state oppression and ensure everyone has safe, affordable housing when they're here.

I know I work to keep my program beneath the notice of our electeds. In my experience, their attention is more likely to derail a carefully crafted process than aid it. Maybe it's different when electeds recognize and align their efforts with staff expertise, but I think that's rare.

To me, that's already a utility fee. Plus, I still want to know more about what it's funding. If it's all auto infra, I'm skeptical.

Best option: we have plentiful housing and an economy that ensures folks that work can afford it and folks that can't can still get it. Second best option: whatever it takes to ensure every human has housing, because we aren't fucking animals.

Building housing is a social good. It's ok for people to make money doing social good things. It's how we as a society incentivize people to do good things for society, and one of the few decent ways our system allows to make someone wealthy.
