A relatively quiet morning at Waxham, with the exception of a side-by-side view of the Glaucous and Iceland Gulls off Waxham Sands Campsite. A single White Wagtail was also of note on the campsite turf.

Today I ran 50km from home to Totnes & got the train back. A low carbon adventure. Once I left Newton Abbot behind, I followed mostly new lanes & paths. Three singing Firecrests & one Cirl Bunting the birdy highlights. Loved the smell of Wild Garlic as I ran alongside the Teign.

Thought the chance of seeing Twite in Norfolk this winter had gone so delighted to see this flock of 16 at Cley this evening. Also the first time I’ve seen Twite in the UK feeding on Salix buds (a behaviour I have seen only in Armenia with ssp brevirostris Caucasian Twite).

Happy St.Cuthberts Day. The northern saint died on this day in 687 on Inner Farne, Farne Islands Northumberland. Amongst many other good deeds he helped protect the nesting Eider Ducks and some folk still call them Cuddy Ducks to this day.
