I think the voice over implies he died vaguely in a war, but they wanted to align somewhat with The Silmarillion, and that's why Finrod has claw marks all over his body. Rather than dying in a big battle it seems he died in some solo venture pursuing Sauron, like the books.

Idk, I was just wondering if anyone else is like me in being a little bit Sauron in being mad for centuries and planning revenge on the guy who orchestrated your murder or the island where some builder bros said you're not good enough to shack up with the saturated Elf you found in the sea.

I just feel like if there was a Lord of the Rings show the studio making it would put out some trailer or something, especially if they had 2 well received seasons and were making a 3rd...but I have never seen any kind of promo ever...therefore the show mustn't exist. It was all a dream.
