We built stac-map, a lightweight, map-first prototype for exploring STAC GeoParquet in your browser. Built w/ DuckDB, geoarrow, & semantic STAC search, explore STAC GeoParquet files directly in the browser. Try it:

Aiming for end of the month to announce, but here's what we're working on:
developmentseed.org/stac-map/
I'm getting some (much needed) help on the frontend (h/t
@indraneel.org
), but the core idea is this: - map-first
@stacspec.bsky.social
viz - stac-geoparquet as first-class The rest is open

Theory: data either wants to fan out or fan in Folks like
@overturemaps.bsky.social
are trying to fan in data to a "correct" dataset
@stacspec.bsky.social
is all about fanning out to allow search and discovery Tools, especially visualizations, will have a hard time crossing between the two
