If I have one tip for people coming to Scotland, it’s this - slow down. Take the back roads. Don’t rush from the airport or the ferry to get up north. There’s so much to see on the way. Here’s Forres, Dundee, Fife, and Angus.

I was looking up Easter traditions and came across Osterfeuer. I’ve never seen it here in Würzburg - is it a thing where you live?

this is neat but also you can just ask any person working at chipotle this same question to get the answer because in 2026 it's taking far longer than expected to find another job that uses her computer science degree

2/2 Speed limits are always a hot topic in Germany, & one most politicians won't touch with a barge pole. The howls & headlines as soon as it's mentioned are deafening. However (!), the stats tell us attitudes have shifted. In November 2025, ⅔ of Germans were in favour of it. Imagine.

A correction will appear in tomorrow's print edition: "A headline with an article on Friday about President Trump’s threats to leave NATO misstated the full name of the body. It is the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, not the North American Treaty Organization."

Kind of concerned about the number of posters missing that this article is 100% deadpan humour, including the title. (If Jonathan Swift showed up on bluesky today, he'd be instantly cancelled for his Modest Proposal).

Los Angeles Bluesky, I need your help. I just learned that on Saturday at the protest at the downtown Metropolitan Detention Center, a friend’s 18-year-old son was shot in the eye with a pepper ball by DHS, permanently blinding him. He needs justice. If you were there and saw anything, please… 1/5

Currently testing the ‘quantum Sprung’ (according to my audiologist) hearing aids to decide if I want to replace my old ones or have them repaired. They use AI and have hundreds of listening profiles, but I’m not sure I like them. They seem to pick up too much. It’s a bit overwhelming.

Led a queue revolution at the Bäckerei this morning. There were 2 people ahead of me, one behind when a woman walked straight past us to the counter. ‘Excuse me. We are all in the queue’, said I. She tried to argue that that’s not how it’s done. With one guy serving, how is her way better?

On what would have been her 100th birthday, German mail remembers Queen Elizabeth II with a special stamp. A very sweet image & an even sweeter wet stamp to match. Royalist or not, I think we can all like this. And no, Royal Mail, pls don't feel obliged to return the favour with one of Merz. 😉

Hyperfixation of the week: there is apparently a field called “forensic hairdressing” where people try to reconstruct ancient hair techniques. Below is one from Ancient Rome ca. 120 AD. The leading figure is a hairstylist-turned-archaeologist named Janet Stephens who also does video tutorials. Cool!

Both my cats love being held and taken to the window to look out. There's an office block opposite, and I'm always sad that the office workers never notice and point and get their colleagues to come look at the cute kitty in my arms.
