Views out over Morecambe Bay… Simply prefect!

The clock is ticking fast for HSTs in England! They have served well, incredibly well in fact. But it is time to pass the baton on. The Castles will be replaced by the Hippos (gradually) on the weekend of the 13th December! What is your greatest memory travelling of HSTs?

Just like that the trip comes to an end here in Ulverston! Back to work for me tomorrow. Hope everyone enjoyed following along with this trip that took in the north east, Lincolnshire, Norfolk, the South Coast and finally Pembrokeshire!

Crewe were it absolutely freezing!!! Glad I’m not changing trains at Preston. That would be artic freezing!

It’s time to head home! Kicking off with a journey up the Heart of Wales line!

I have a rule when I’m on the Heart of Wales line… Go to Tudor Cafe in Llandovery! The breakfast is next level good!!! Off to the station now to set off home.

Great long weekend had with great friends in a beautiful part of Wales! It’s now time to head home!

Good day from Fishguard & Goodwick! Having a much needed break away with a group of friends in a lonely holiday cottage. A holiday cottage with its own private pub no less! This morning a few of us opted to go to the station cafe for a fry up… wow it was good!!!

Today comes to an end in the lovely town of Monmouth! So sad to see so many shops closed due to the bad floods that recently hit the town ☹️ Time to check in to hotel and get some grub and beer!

Spent some time looking around Chepstow. Wow it’s a beautiful place! After taking in the town, it’s time for the bus to Monmouth where today’s travels finish. (I have checked, my hotel wasn’t affected by the floods)

Travelled from Newport to Chepstow using the new Pay as you go tap on tap off system! Felt very weird using tap on tap off at a national rail station not in London! But at £6 cheaper than a paper ticket it’s an easy decision! What’s everyone else thoughts about tap on tap off?

This evening I found myself on the Elizabeth Line. In the short time I was waiting for the train to arrive I was thinking: How the heck did people cope travelling around London before the Elizabeth line!

Decided to hop off at Box Hill & Westhumble. I rather like the station buildings here.

Decided to stay change trains at Horsham and head towards London via Dorking as it’s a very long time since I went that route!

Spent a bit of time having a walk around Chichester. The cathedral was particularly beautiful! Heading back towards London now.

First stop of the day is Littlehampton where it’s started snowing! So I’m ditching my plan for today and going to wing it! Walk later on which I can’t be arsed with given the weather isn’t great!

Good day from Worthing! Nice views out to sea this morning! Southern Daysaver today, so Yh, will mostly be southern trains obviously!

Today’s travels come to an end on the south coast at Worthing! Spent most of that journey following the Scotland footie on my phone! GET IN SCOTLAND! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 I’m off to get a beer to celebrate 🍺

From London Liverpool Street to London Victoria… Time to head for the south coast! Yh this trip has got a bit random 😂

A quick change at Norwich and I’m now heading south at speed towards the capital!

Cromer is beautiful! Really really beautiful! Visit Cromer… Visit Norfolk!

That’s enough of buses… back on the trains! On the Stadler to Cromer we go.

Fakenham to Sheringham service 9 operated by Sanders coaches was an unexpected joy of a journey! The scenery and the tree tunnels was very nice.

A lovely walk around Fakenham was had. Sadly not long here before my next bus which will be taking me to Sheringham! Norfolk is so beautiful!!!

First stop today was Dereham where I just had a wander about for a bit and got a few supplies. Seemed a nice enough place. Will return at some point next year to visit the heritage railway! Looks like a good one! For now it’s onwards to Fakenham onboard service 21.

Time to continue east. Heading into Non railway Norfolk land! Like yesterday in Lincolnshire, it never used to non railway land! It does appear though the buses do a good job at being reasonably fast & frequent though.

And that’s a wrap on another day… Wisbech bus station not somewhere I want to be hanging about at night, so quickly to hotel then to Spoons for a pint and burger!

Didn’t go very south… One stop to Peterborough. Time to swap train for bus again and get a number (sorry, Letter… Why is it letters here?) A service to Wisbech where I’ll be calling it a day!

Time to head south again with LNER! This is the best photo I got… these Azumas arrive into the platform at such a speed, trying to get a decent photo at night is really difficult!

I was once told “The best way to see Skegness is to arrive and leave in as little time as possible!” Half hour between bus arriving & train departing felt like too long 😬.

Went to Mablethorpe, just walked along the beach for an hour taking in the sea air! The views was beautiful East Lincolnshire so needs a railway!

Louth looks very nice! Quite annoyed only got 40 minutes here. I will have to return when I’ve not got connections to make later in the day! Onwards to the coast now and Mablethorpe!

On to bus at Grimsby. It didn’t always have to be like this. If it wasn’t for the Beeching Report in the 60s then it might still be possible to get a train south of Grimsby down the East Lincolnshire Line! As it is, I’m on a bus thinking how much easier this would be on train!

Time for a trip along the Brigg Line on a blooming class 150! This is definitely the last 150 of the trip! Silver lining is at least I’ve got a private carriage 🙃

Good morning from Gainsborough! Had bit of time to kill this morning so went for a walk around the town. Great to finally have some blue skies on this trip!

And that’s a wrap on today’s travels… Gainsborough Lea Road is where I say goodbye to the 150 and hopefully don’t see one again for the remainder of this trip! Tomorrow I explore Lincolnshire a bit… but for now, I’m off to the pub!

As if a 150 from Castleford to Sheffield wasn’t bad enough… the exact same unit is now taking me to Gainsborough 😭

Changing trains at Castleford seemed like a good idea when I found a £10 advance from Darlington to Castleford… Now my next train is a 150 I’m thinking Leeds was a better choice 😫. Time to head to Sheffield!

York is a funny old station… when I’m not here I always think of it as over rated. But when I’m here I always think it’s rather special!

It’s time to swap little slow train for fast big train! Said fast big train is also a very busy train! I’ve got a seat though and it’s time to head south!

Safe to say it’s very Autumn now! The yellow front of this Northern 156 looks right at home surrounded by the trees on the Esk Valley line!

Took a walk from Egton to Glaisdale. Was a couple of rather big hills which delivered some great views from the top! If station ticking an easy enough walk to tick them off. Otherwise I’d not bother, much better walks to do on the line!

Good morning from Sunderland! No trip to the North East is complete without a trip on the Esk Valley Line! Not going all the way to Whitby today, but going for a walk between two stations on the line I’ve not done before!

This afternoon has just been spent for the most part travelling about and visiting a few random towns including Crook & Biahop Auckland! The £7.50 TNE All zones ticket is great value and covers a big area!
