Just finished Matt Smith era of Doctor Who - really enjoyed it, thought took me a while to get through. Loved Amy Pond throughout, and now Clara. Highlights include the Van Gogh episode and the whole thing with the Silence, as well as the special, "The Day of the Doctor". Onward to Capaldi!

He also told her to "delete this exchange" which she did not, instead turning the messages over to police. She's not being charged with a crime nor accused of wrongdoing. I cannot imagine how terrified she is, knowing her partner committed such a heinous act and many are now scapegoating her for it

No acrobatics necessary to distance “the left” from the murderer. It now appears to me that he held a vague & simplistic version of leftism to which he applied *his own* murder logic. That murder logic is his, not yours or mine. He isn’t “mine” to apologize for. I condemn as I would any murderer.

This is the strangest “manhunt” energy I’ve ever seen. Waiting hours or more to release photo/video of the person of interest. Having a name but not releasing it or getting a warrant. Press conference with no questions allowed. 2 incorrect suspects. Just weird.

They don't call it "violent speech" when you say the government should do it. This has broken our brains. Charlie Kirk was an outspoken advocate for violence; he just wanted that violence to be enacted by the government. Memorializing him as an advocate of civil discourse is bullshit.

Just to be clear: NYT’s Ezra Klein thinks that Charlie Kirk (who implied that trans people should be beaten and/or murdered) was “doing American politics the right way”, while he has also said that “the left lost on trans rights” because of “illiberalism.” I’m officially done with Ezra.

"Well done, good and faithful servant" loses its meaning when you use it for a man who proudly and publicly hated every one of the least of these.

Political violence is abhorrent. I have not celebrated Kirk's death. But Newsom calling for his followers to "continue Charlie Kirk's work," someone who praised stoning gay people as "god's perfect law," who called for men to "take care of" trans people like they did in the 50s and 60s, is not it.

For anyone who was getting on the Newsom bandwagon… I share his disdain of political violence. But a statement that Kirk’s “work” was “good-faith debate” is exactly the kind of toxic bothsidesism Newsom is about.

As always, I stand against violence of the sort that seems to have targeted Charlie Kirk today. It’s both morally wrong (the more important factor here) and strategically counter-productive.

I'm sick after seeing the video of Charlie Kirk being shot. Violence against civilians is never okay. Political violence — no matter who is hurt — will always beget worse political violence. And it has no place in our country.

Political violence has no place in a liberal democracy.
