It’s a small story but the small stuff is what counts over the years, I think. And it illustrates who he was to me: always smiling, cracking jokes, a good software engineer and an even better guy. I’ll miss him a lot.

Anyway we ended up making some kind of mistake, and got on the wrong train. I was freaking out a bit, but Piotr was so chill. He reassured me we’d be fine. We got off in some random tiny town, got new tickets, got on the right train, and he was 100% right: it was all fine.

One time, we were in Belgium, at the same conference. I was still getting used to riding trains around (I love you Amtrak but it’s not the same), and so Piotr offered to go to the airport with me, after all, our flights were even at roughly the same time!

Incredibly sad to hear of Piotr’s passing last week. Just a great person. I’m glad to have been able to be his friend.
