Whether you are almost done with the school year or just finished, I think it's really important to take time and consider whether the way your grading policy impacted your classroom and particularly the learning within it. (Even better: if you can, ask students about choices you made!)

This is such an important book. I recommend it as a key read this month. There are many lessons from it, all critical for our daughters, nieces, aunts, grandmas, mothers, sisters, friends, partners. Women make up half the world’s population. Half. It is time we find ourselves in data.

I just deleted, "I appreciate how you are..." in formative feedback on a teacher candidate's learning journal and changed it to "you are....and that means..." My time with @katiewhite426.bsky.social this week and thinking about removing "I" from feedback is right up front in my brain!

Our 3rd and 4th days with @katiewhite426.bsky.social in the VSB brought together elementary Ts. Dug hard into S work looking for strengths FIRST. Good questions, meaningful conversations, and new collegial friendships forged. Can't wait to bring everyone back together in 2.5 months.Thank you, Katie!

Bring close to 30 sec Ts teachers together for an evening and a whole day, have them bring student work, feed them, and put @katiewhite426.bsky.social in front of them, you get rich conversations, tons of growth in assessment, and well tended seeds that will grow until we gather again in May!

The purpose of negative emotions is not to cause misery. It’s to prevent mistakes. Outrage is a signal to speak up. Anxiety is a prompt to prepare. Guilt is a reminder to repair. Disappointment is a cue to persist. Pain reveals principles. Where we hurt is a clue to what we value.

A small addition to our writing task today: adding "confidence intervals" as a dropdown for students to select when finished—with the goal of them then taking the next step and getting support to help improve their response to a higher confidence level before submitting!

🔄 Grouping students who have IEPs but varying needs into a resource room to be supported by a single teacher isn't likely to offer any opportunity for real intervention. Students with the same needs should be grouped for intervention time. #LeadInclusion #EduSky #UDL #EdLeaders
