I had a childhood friend whose parent was an extreme hoarder. One of the most heartbreaking experiences I’ve ever witnessed in my life. 💔

I know a really bad hoarder in the Weirton area. Thanks to her, and her near decade with this issue, this is something I've seen coming for a while. And I also learned how complicated it is to treat and deal with. Lots of fear and fear of abandonment baked in

Interesting aspect of this is the idea that doing an all-at-once clutter purge can be mentally damaging for the hoarder and it's better to progressively chip away at it

Hoarding has been going on for decades for some seniors. It’s just increased because the Boomers are increasing the senior population numbers. As a social worker for 25 years, hoarding is common & can be treated effectively given enough social work visits by insurance, which is always an issue.
