A lot of people who aren’t conservative have limited the role of the state to assistance in hard times or for the disadvantaged instead of public goods as available to everyone and not means tested—and used variations of class analysis to do so.

Fascists want us to believe that they can weaponize any actions we take against us. If we feel like inaction is the only "safe" choice, it's easier them to escalate their violence. The reality is that almost anything we do to oppose them is more protective than doing nothing.

Excellent thread on new data about how many people were detained by ICE in Minnesota during Operation Metro Surge. A third were “collaterals”—or people who were never on an ICE target list. They just were unlucky enough to be abducted because ICE had broad permission to abduct anyone.

I would add that this is even true of very online people because the internet/online communities are siloed and so is information. People talk about so many different things/people who I have no clue about and just don't want to know.

I ran into this a lot in my research with formerly incarcerated folks. They frequently had trouble identifying where they got their insurance or why they were eligible for the program, which sometimes meant they unexpectedly lost coverage and didn’t know how to re-enroll.

Students love fancy facilities, sports programming, and name brand recognition, but when asked, most point toward interaction with engaged professors who help them learn how to think and evaluate the thinking of others as the most transformative and important part of their college experience.
