Pretty certain that hundreds of years from now the broad takeaway from this era will be that the sudden invention of a vast and unregulated information and communication network was so overwhelming that it caused everyone to completely lose their minds.

Hey! My wife
@alicemeichi.li
painted a beautiful cover for the new Nemesis series from Titan comics (it's the gorgeous blue one). Nearly 20 years together and she still manages to dazzle me with her talents.

I keep seeing things about how the primary indicator of a person using AI for art is if their style changes significantly in a brief period of time. I'm just going to throw it out there that there are plenty of other completely valid reasons for why this can sometimes happen.

You know who would never support somebody accused of what Neil Gaiman has been accused of? Neil Gaiman (until half a year ago). Back when we all thought he was probably a fundamentally decent guy, that's at least partly because he wasn't telling us to give Harvey Weinstein the benefit of the doubt.

Someone I am ashamed to know made the argument that he would keep defending his hero Neil Gaiman because 'If I ever become a famous writer, this could happen to me.' There's a reaction suspended somewhere between narcissism, unhealthy levels of hero worship and maybe a closet full of skeletons.

I worked at Midtown Comics in 2008 when I first heard rumours that Gaiman was abusing his position to have sex with female fans. It always seemed sort of likely, but I never knew for sure (It's not like with Warren Ellis where I actually knew some of the women).

I just realized that it looks weird when I post about comics industry predators while wearing a profile picture that makes me look like 'the guy who likes to watch' at the Eyes Wide Shut orgy.

I always say this, but groomers don't just groom their victims, they groom everyone around them. I know of more than one time in my youth where I was sort of collaterally groomed by creeps who weren't directly targeting me and who later turned out to be monsters.

If you are in California this is likely not the end and likely the last time we will see federal support for a while. Please get an emergency kit (earthquake & fire) and a respirator. The kind where you can change out the filters. Covid masks are good in a pinch but next time you want a respirator.

Jeffrey Catherine Jones is one of my most favourite artists ever. If you don't know her work, you owe it to yourself to at least google it. I'm STILL waiting for a giant Taschen volume of her paintings like the one they did for Frazetta a few years back.

Have been on Bluesky quite a bit the last two days (for info & resources) & it’s not social media that’s broken. I think it’s us that’s broken now. I’ll post about places ppl can donate because LA is in bad shape & my replies are full of “ummmm sounds like somebody’s never heard of Pompeii.”

I just saw advice that if you think you might be evacuated at some point, even if there's only a slim chance, then you should walk around your home videoing everything as proof for an insurance claim because insurance companies are scumbags who will use disasters to screw their customers.

People outside of LA truly don’t understand how apocalyptic this is. It’s worse than it’s ever been. Entire residential neighborhoods are burning to the ground.

Cards on the table, I'm a lonely person. I have my wife who I love and a handful of people I consider my closest friends, most of whom I see maybe five times a year. I used to have a much bigger social circle and an active social life, in addition to several long distance friendships. 1/8

I don't like what Facebook did to my brain. For the last few years I have been complaining about how fundamentally broken the algorithm is. I can't scroll my newsfeed any more without being inundated with content seemingly tailor made to frustrate me. I block it, it keeps coming. 1/7

This has been Meta's approach to everything though, hasn't it? They had one product most people liked 20 years ago and gradually ruined it with changes that nobody was allowed to say no to.
