I grew up in fundies land being told that hippies were gullible nut cases. It’s so intriguing to me that while all people fall for conspiracy theories- Rs will be the ones to dismantle the US over them.

We have to politicize ‘hateful’ and even ‘racist’ as more than simply moral failures. They’re *organizing* their children. From babies to college. Calling Latinos animals over and over again primes them for Charlie Kirk. Charlie Kirk primes them for Christian nationalism and white supremacy.

Now is not the time to listen to writers that have a job, now is the time to listen to organizers that know and understand strategy.

Writers will often say things like ‘the movement’ and what they really mean is ‘my job.’

A huge lesson I learned from the blogging era- writers are not automatically organizers, no matter what it is they’re writing.

And above all else? Give some fucking respect to the civil rights and power movement organizers (esp black power!) that built everything we know about how to organize in the US.

Sometimes the win is staying alive one more day. Sometimes the win is overthrowing an empire. You learn to appreciate all of it. Leave organizers who know this fucking alone. And if you really care about organizing strategies and skills? Go to meetings and start learning.

And if you pretend all this started with trump, you don’t see their organizing strategy and you don’t see that the point is to hold on longer.

That’s why I am so fucking adamant that we acknowledge the start of all this garbage at the very LEAST with the brown v board of education ruling. Because they regrouped, made a plan and dug in. And we assumed we won and stopped paying attn.

Spontaneity doesn’t win concessions or make changes. Being able to hold on longer and harder does.

I have the good luck of knowing a senior that marched in various intense civil rights marches, including in Mississippi and Alabama and she has told me that they’d spend hours and sometimes days in church singing and praying to prepare for an action that may lead to death.

Folks know the civil rights movement was highly trained, right? And that actions that they knew would be dangerous were not only trained for but were prepared for in ways that acknowledge- you may die or be hurt.

that said that most charges/cases govt pressed against power movements wound up w the movement being freed/cleared of all charges, but that the combination of all the costs of defending themselves in various cases basically leveled 'The Movement.'
