This is true in all of higher-ed, and ESPECIALLY in NYC. Photographed here is the NYPD's response on Thursday to a protest commemorating the 2 year anniversary of when the NYPD raided a pro-Palestine protest encampment at the City College of New York. The cops outnumbered the protesters.

NB: the University of Maryland also stopped allowing student speakers at commencement this year, but at least (some) faculty and grad students won the right to right to bargain collectively despite the administration's opposition.
