Cardiff is the first UK city to approve higher parking charges for larger, more-polluting vehicles like SUVs. SUVs make up over 60% of new cars sold in the UK, but are 14% more likely to kill a pedestrian or cyclist and 77% more likely to kill a child.

In Wales, Cornwall, Edinburgh, London and so many places when most 30mph roads were changed to 20mph, people injured or killed by motor vehicles reduced by 20%+. With minimal change to journey times and £2bn saving in insurance costs it's a huge win.

The council's director's decision comments that an exemption to the banned turn can be considered - that's not an actual decision. On the good news front, there is apparently a cycle track scheme between Upper Brentwood Road and the Ring Road being designed - this could be transformational! 5/6

2024 GB Road Casualties Report shows that "speed" was the largest Road Safety Factor in fatal collisions at 59%. Another reason why we are calling for 20mph as an urban/village norm to save 15,000 casualties annually.
