It never fails to amaze me that journalists don’t fight harder for control over the headlines attached to their articles, knowing that it’s next to their name and that it’s the words the most people will actually read.

"Never spread the lie in the headline" should be a hard rule of 21st century journalism. Research shows that repeating lies helps to spread them, and people read headlines more than they read stories.

Unfortunately, in US journalism it is considered neutral to spread a lie, but it is considered "biased" to call out a lie. So, there is a structural asymmetry that rewards colorful lies with virality.

Prasad is not someone whose commentary would merit a headline. Now that he is at the FDA he has more influence, but he is using that power to ignore experts and push his agenda. The article provides context that the headline cannot, so the wording of the headline is more important.

How in heaven’s name can they justify this? She was an asset for this country, not a threat, and she was brought here as a little child, which obviously wasn’t in her control. It was cruel to her and her family, and a loss for the U.S.

When a news outlet puts a reckless, undocumented claim by the Trump regime in the main headline and puts medical experts’ pushback in the smaller type, it’s making a choice. And not a good one.

Team Trump justifies his endless parade of lawless actions as what Americans voted for but it clearly is not. He’s minus 25 and people hate everything he’s doing. There’s no support for any of this, let alone in the illegal manner it’s being imposed.
