I have missed* so many boats with self pub it's not even funny, but each subsequent boat has felt much much less seaworthy... (Okay, I did launch one, but only as an experiment, and it sank without much trace.)

I mean this in the nicest way as someone who's indie published 16 books now; the indie publishing world has a massive fucking problem that makes KU book stuffing look like a silly lil prank. People were sorta starting to respect and see self publishing not as a defeat, but viable option. Now?

Pay to reject cookies is a really annoying new trend and I'm not sure how it complies with the law. What's next, yes we've provided toilets but you have to pay to use them? Yes we've provided a wheelchair ramp but you have to pay xtra? Yes you can have your legally mandated break...if you pay £9.99.

In 1979, Mattel sold toy Battlestar Galactica fighter ships that fired a tiny spring-loaded "torpedo." One 4-year old choked on it, and the entire line of torpedo toys was recalled and never sold again.

The right are so obsessed with the idea that leftist agitiators on are secretly being paid is simply because their movement is being secretly financed. They also can't imagine why you would take a position that you weren't being paid to take, since they have no actual principles beyond self-interest

If you don’t see what’s happening here, if you still think there is zero media bias against the Left, and no smear campaign going on against the Greens, you are completely deluded. The man arrested was a Reform voter.😡

I worked with teenagers who were sacked from shelf-stacking jobs for coming in on a Saturday morning a bit pissed from the night before. One who wasn't spotted in time, fumbled a tray of dog food cans she was putting on a high shelf & ended up needing surgery on her face. Imagine the compo.

You've heard of girl dinner, and boy dinner, but I can I interest you in Dashiell Hammet's Continental Op lunch? It's a cup of coffee with flask whiskey poured into it and a slice of pie for 35 cents but you leave four bits and tell the waitress to keep the change.

I’ve been hearing so much anger and disappointment from frontline workers about the BBC investigation into fraudulent asylum claims. One of the most damning responses has come from one of the experts they interviewed, solicitor Ana Gonzalez. It’s really worth reading her response in full:

Learned from my 101-year-old grandfather that one problem of being a centenarian is that airlines apparently only have a 2-digit age variable, meaning that every time he shows up at the airport, the data in the system at the check-in counter thinks he's a 1-year-old unaccompanied child.
