One argument I used to make to my students about why it was important to learn history (and historical thinking) is that someone was always going to be trying to tell you things were natural or had always been this way and that you needed to be able to see that as an exercise of power.

Until recently I hadn't read "Scapegoat," a book that is never mentioned in the now 6-year-long Dworkin revival going on (even though it seems in many ways to be her magnum opus). It's the book where Dworkin finally says what she thinks women should do. The answer she comes up with may surprise you.

The philological orthodoxy of a century ago was that all manuscripts should be judged as more or less reliable witnesses to an assumed original. Today it is orthodox to preach that every manuscript is its own original, demanding equal consideration. A move from one unachievable fantasy to another.

Fascists do not have "ideas," as such. They have ideologies and intentions, but their "idea" is "everyone but us should be our sole property or dead, preferably in an unmarked mass grave." Everything else they say outside of that is a lie designed to further that end. There is no exchange to be had.

The thing is, I don't believe that the average "gender-critical" bigot doubts that we are women. They do not, after all, have any problem with cis men. They marry them, have children with them, form political alliances with them etc. It's just misogyny against women they deem to be "beneath" them.
