Germany to fund and deliver 15,000 Strila interceptor drones to Ukraine’s armed forces Germany will finance and deliver 15,000 Ukrainian-made STRILA interceptor drones to units of the National Guard of Ukraine. Production of the drone will be expanded through a joint effort between German company Quantum-Systems and Ukrainian company WIY Drones, according to a post by the German Embassy on Facebook . “The multi-million-euro agreement also includes training, logistical support and continued joint UAV development. The STRILA interceptor drone was specifically designed to destroy fast and maneuverable aerial targets,” the embassy said. The embassy stressed that STRILA will be produced in Ukraine in order to rapidly meet the urgent needs of the Ukrainian military, as well as the country’s security and defense forces. Funding is being provided by the German government to support Ukraine in its resistance to Russian aggression, and the production contract was signed with the participation of German Chargé d’Affaires ad interim Maximilian Rasch, representatives of the National Guard and Quantum Systems. According to information on the WIY Drones website , STRILA is a missile-type anti-aircraft interceptor UAV. It was designed to intercept high-speed and maneuvering aerial targets — including Shahed-136/131 drones, reconnaissance flying-wing drones and other strike UAVs — while protecting positions, military units and critical infrastructure from a safe distance. “The platform provides rapid launch, high closing dynamics and precise guidance. Integration with WIY’s standard software and targeting sources, including radar, gives the operator cues on the target’s direction, altitude and speed, reducing the time from detection to neutralization and lowering crew workload,” the description says. The STRILA drone has a tactical range of 14 kilometers, a maximum flight altitude of 5 kilometers and a top speed of 350 kilometers per hour. It is worth noting that in December last year, Quantum Systems and Ukraine’s Frontline Robotics announced the creation of a joint German-Ukrainian defense venture, Quantum Frontline Industries (QFI). The project calls for launching Europe’s first fully automated industrial production line for Ukrainian drones for the Ukrainian Defense Forces.
