It occurs to me that right-wingers are in year 18 of a tantrum over a black man becoming president, which is weird because they usually lose interest when something turns that age.

And even it we did elevate others who have these unique challenges, would that not simply mean that we are promoting EQUITY? The lack of empathy I'm seeing from human beings is infuriating. We can be so much better than this.

Special needs has more to do with the specialization of skills and credentials used for particular areas on need based on the whole person. It is not an exclusive club where people are put on a pedestal because of their unique challenges or orientation to their environment. Educate yourselves.
