There are only two days left to sign the petition by Migrants Against the Acceptable Standard of Health Aotearoa to remove the archaic and eugenicist rules that have seen so many disabled and chronically ill migrants deported form the country, including children. Please, please, PLEASE sign this.
loading . . .
Petitions are addressed to the House of Representatives and ask that the House do something about a policy or law, or put right a local or private concern.

Denmark's coal-to-wind transition is one of the most dramatic energy transformations of the past three decades. In 1990, coal provided 90% of Danish electricity. Today it is under 3%. Wind now covers roughly 60% of electricity generation. The last coal plant is scheduled to close by 2028.

Petition for media to start noting stories like this one regularly happen in the context of a culture that demonstrably, actively hates women, a “justice” system that backs that up, and as Dr. Mudgway notes below, a distinct lack of appetite to clearly, unequivocally name what is actually happening.

I am delighted to announce that the greatest website I have ever experienced still exists. My flatmate found it circa 2004. IT STILL LIVES. It's a fan fiction site and what is the fiction about? Only ROY ORBISON WRAPPED IN CLING-FILM.

They take up so much room! They make travel more dangerous and they're utterly unnecessary in urban spaces (and apparently aren't used that much in rural spaces)! Normal-sized utes — with more flat-bed space — are available!

This is such a sensitive issue but The spontaneous memorials that appear at the site of a young person's death are a natural and understandable response to grief And... I think where these are outside someone's home or shop, having a set duration for the memorial (say a year) is reasonable?

NZ Govt has taken a huge bet on fossil fuels. NZ was already spending $8 billion a year importing fossil fuels, and now the global fuel crisis is going to make that worse. Betting on fossil fuels has turned out to be a losing bet for NZ. This is the 14 point policy record of 2 years of the NZ Govt:

Still thinking about this. 'Making his bed' is so emblematic of that mob's whole mindset. It's not doing something useful, like cleaning the kitchen or hanging out a load of laundry. No, a young man can't be expected to be responsible for communal jobs like those. But he should make his own bed.

Today I thought Well I agree with Jordan Petersen on one thing: it'd be nice if the boys made their beds when they got up. And then I thought Wait a mo. Beyond aesthetics, making your bed is the household job that's the least useful to everyone else you live with. Huh. Yeah, that tracks.

Biking vent: Yesterday a van slowed to let a car in the opposite lane pass so it could turn right into a driveway. So the car behind it, rather than idk also slowing for 2 seconds, served left into the bike lane — WHERE I WAS — to get past the van without slowing down.

This is what happens when your culture treats motor vehicles as the centre of the world. People in charge of multi-tonne vehicles refuse to understand that *they need to look out for others* because *they are the ones who will kill someone if things go wrong* Not just refuse, they get UPSET

We had to break it to a student this week that the reason she wasn't able to find the reference info for a particular source was that it wasn't real. She was astounded, completely floored, that AI wasn't a search engine.

Years ago, a writer friend was passing through on tour. I didn't know him that well, but I liked what I knew of him - and when he suggested that I join him (and the other writer touring with them) to hang and sign stock, I said "Sure, let's do it." So the three of us spent a day doing that. (1)

It’s infuriating when a woman comes forward about a man raping her in his hotel room after drinking and the response is “Why would she go to his room?” “Why would she drink with him?” This is Mike Pence logic. Women should be allowed to hang out with men without expecting they will be raped.

If someone has a problematic dog it's all handled by the council, with the complainants anonymised and everything. Antisocial car parking (i.e. blocking the footpath) should be handled in the same way.
