Did the timed paper with yr 11 in #MathsToday (20 mins, mark, 20 mins mark) and one consistently grade 3 student nearly got a 5! It takes up one lesson a week but it is so helpful for them right now.

I asked yr 13 if they wanted a 2.5hr session in school during the may break and they all voted yes. Why did I ask?! At least they have faith I'll deliver something worthwhile I suppose.

One thing I love is post exam lessons where you do all the building blocks for a question they got wrong and then you give them the question again and they can do it. They feel so smart. Great atmosphere.

After Feb mocks, I told my yr 13 off for writing QED where it didn't belong. We just did a full set of papers and one of them has written it after every question. And after his name.

In #MathsToday my yr 11 did 20 mins then mark then 20 mins then mark of a paper and then we looked at grade boundaries and where they could have easily gained a few marks. Many were shocked at how easy it would have been for them to go up a grade if they knew/did some simple things.

Why don't we consider themed papers for maths GCSE reform? So that we have a stats paper like in a level and maybe a functional paper and an algebra paper or something? It could potentially help students because they could focus their revision per paper because they'd have a better idea of topics.

Have I done my coursework? No. Have I read multiple books and planted new plants? Yes. Not the most useful of breaks, but at least I'm well rested.

In #MathsToday I tried @theteacherwins.bsky.social's idea of getting the students to take turns answering an #ALevelMaths question, to focus on clearly setting out their steps, so that the other person could pick up from where they got up to. It went really well, and they seemed to enjoy it!

For those creating revision booklets: the modular nature of ppt has been a game changer. So much easier to grab a topic from a previous booklet because it's just copying a couple of slides. Before this yr I was having to remake every time.

I think what I miss most about being 2ic is that I was ks3 lead then and I love ks3. It's where the magic happens, where we develop the love for maths and build the blocks that allow them to go beyond us. Get it right and GCSE and a level follows.
