dumb questions as a service mandatory caveat: views not representative of my employer

An elderly neighbor came to warn me that people my age want her dead for her house. She was wrong about everything — including the tax system she says is squeezing her:

My neighbor handed me a speeding survey. Then she told me people my age want her dead.
She lives in a $2.2 million home assessed at $740k and believes young people want her dead so housing opens up. An hour with a Bay Area NIMBY.

This, +10000 Age-related or otherwise (ahem,

We were on bikes so we went from the starting point to the destination on side streets instead of with this crowd, but it was amazing - felt like half the city was there!

My aunt in Spain sent me her paella recipe and included the instructions "rest 5-10 minutes under a newspaper - must be left wing." So of course I used my print edition of

I did actually know this, which is why whenever I have to buy paper goods or mailing accessories like a packing tape dispenser, I go out of my way to try not to buy their products (not always possible). It's hard to boycott them as an individual, but you can share this with businesses you buy from!

For the first time in several years and maybe only the 5th time since 2000, I skipped the SOTU. I did, however, watch this modern classic 3 times, and I suggest you do the same if you are in need of a palate cleanser.

you lost votes in 2024 not because people thought you went too far, but because people who thought you were not willing to do anything stayed home.

When OMB head Russ Vought talks about deliberate efforts to put federal employees "in trauma" and make them quit their jobs, he's talking about people like Michelle, recently fired by Musk/Trump.

I have historically been really happy as a

customer for the past 15ish years - the service has been good and the prices reasonable. But if this partnership with
#Starlink
continues, I will be changing mobile services ASAP. It seems obvious, but I don't do business with Nazis.

Perhaps TFG is in fact creating a jobs program (just not in the way he thinks)! It will almost certainly take thousands of engineers, social workers, lawyers, diplomats, etc to clean up this mess and rebuild our national security and social safety net infrastructure from scratch when he's gone.

We can argue that the election would have gone differently if people had believed Trump when he said what he planned, or that Dems should have been more prepared with a response. But I don't think we can argue against the idea that some things will change permanently (if we ever recover).

This is the first year in my life that I (a person who has previously started my thanksgiving baking in October by rendering my own lard for pie crusts) ordered pies from an excellent local bakery instead of making them myself, and I am so overwhelmingly . . . relieved.

My favorite thing about Waymo rides is the skill with which the car avoids hitting pedestrians and cyclists even when crazy people jaywalk on Van Ness, and my second favorite thing is setting all of them to play KEXP for the next passenger.

Notably, the US government would probably see more economic benefit from *adding* employees rather than removing them; the CBO estimates $5-9 return for every $1 spent on staffing for the IRS.

As soon as you back down on sports you've effectively conceded the argument for trans rights to the bigots. That's how wedge issues work, it's the blade end of the axe-head, and you've stipulated to their basic premise
