The whole "woke" hysteria & backlash? "Cancel culture"? It was all this! The controversy over bahn mi in the college cafeteria. The HR guidance that instructed people to say "pregnant people." The trans girl who wanted to swim on the HS team. These are not things *Dems* chose to talk about!

It's really key to understand this: ***they don't need actual backlash of any substance or scale to run this cycle***. All they need is a few random comments, which they can always find, which means that you can basically run this cycle at will. You don't need libs to play along at all!

The trans panic is maddening, because trans people are expected to defend ourselves with logic science and any sign of emotion is a failure. And yet the anti-trans campaign is nothing but appeals to emotion unburdened by facts, precedent, or empathy.

The problem isn't that transphobic parents are being ignored, it's that they're *lying about basic facts.* This is the dynamic on nearly every issue of public interest, from guns to climate change to economics. "The bigots are lying again" is a fucking great message for democrats and it's true.
